The Chamber Pots
Ben Rogers & Cyril Moran – guitars; Romana Geermans – Violin; Alina Jonas – cello
“Violin, two guitars and cello presenting a collection of up-tempo and ambient original instrumental compositions”
“Ben Rogers’ collection of up-tempo and ambient original compositions are brought to life by Romana’s exquisite violin together with the interwoven guitars of Cyril Moran and Ben, and the sweet sound of Alina Jonas’ cello.”
The Chamber Pots’ sound combines the gypsy jazz, rock, and folk flavours of Ben’s musical life with violin virtuoso Romana, a touch of the traditional Irish sounds of Cyril, and mellow tones from Alina’s classical music background. The combination of Ben’s original compositions with this instrumentation brings a unique mixture of the entrancing and the toe-tapping. The Chamber Pots are like nothing you’ve heard before.
Ben Rogers – guitarist/composer
Ben has been playing guitar since the early sixties, initially influenced by the popular instrumentals of that period. During the 1980s he was based in Perth, where he performed in various bands including the Gypsy Jazz influenced quartet Vipers Dream. Now based in Melbourne, he has released a number of albums including Windfarms of Your Mind - a collection of his original acoustic instrumentals (included in Billy Pinnell’s Top Ten Albums of 2011 in Rhythms Magazine), and five CDs of surf/spy/guitar-noir with his trio Ben Rogers’ Instrumental Asylum (with Nikki Scarlett and Denis Close). His arrangement of the Django Reinhardt jazz standard “Nuages” is listed as a recommended version in The Jazz Standards, a reference book published by Oxford University Press.
Cyril Moran – guitar/vocals
Irish born Cyril Moran arrived in Melbourne in the early 90s and quickly hooked up with the music scene, playing with popular band Shillelagh Goat at The Dan O’Connell and many other venues. Later, Cyril formed Heartwood to develop a repertoire of folk-based and original songs with an emphasis on vocal harmonies. They produced a CD which received favourable reviews.
Cyril also released an album called Songs From The Soft Voice, with well-known fiddler Greg Hunt. In 2000 and with the help of Arts Victoria he produced his first solo album Summer Rain which consisted mostly of original songs. In 2004 he won the Lawson Patterson songwriting award at Port Fairy for his composition Freedom’s Song, a story about his journey to Australia mirrored with that of the refugees.
In mid 2014 Cyril collaborated on a project called Louey Hesterman’s Whimsy and struck up an immediate musical friendship with Louey’s long-time friend Ben Rogers, whose music inspired him to explore jazz on guitar. This led to the collaboration called Chamber Pots, which focuses on performing Ben's compositions.

Alina Jonas – cello
Alina is a classically trained cellist whose first foray into ensemble music was as a member of a classical trio playing weddings and corporate functions. After a musical hiatus, Alina's musical passion was reignited through Ben Rogers’ compositions, which he has arranged to include cello parts. These arrangements led to the formation of The Chamber Pots. Alina is currently also performing with The Side Hustlers and several other acoustic trios and quartets.
